The Scientific Side Of Breast Augmentation

The miracle of mammoplasty has been iterated again and again. Today, we take a look at the actual implants that make the marvel possible. Any breast prosthesis that is inserted in a breast to reconstruct, augment or build a physical form is known as a breast implant. There are three types of implants that we discuss here.

Saline – An elastomer silicone shell is used to hold a sterile solution in such kind of implants. The saline solution is generally salt water. To control the size, shape, and volume of the implant, the amount of solution filled is increased or decreased. The volume of the solution also affects the firmness and feel of the implants. In case the implant breaks or ruptures or leaks, the solution is absorbed by the body and then removed through the natural process

Silicone Gel – This variety of breast implants are made of a silicone shell and filled with a silicone gel. If the implant breaks or ruptures or leaks, the gel either fills up the implant pocket or stays inside the shell.

Fat transfer – The last type of implant is actually a surgery that harvests fat from one area of the body and then injects it into the breasts. Called fat transfer breast augmentation, this type of surgery is most useful for people who require only a minimal increase in size. The fat cells are generally taken from the thighs, arms or back.

Depending upon the type of implant chosen and the surgery conducted, an implant can last from seven to twelve years. This is an average statistics and can differ from person to person.
